TMJ Orofacial Pain

Orofacial pain refers to pain associated with the hard and soft tissues of the head, face, and neck. The diagnostic range for complaint of pain is the following after infection, autoimmune and tumor have been ruled out:

Musculoskeletal (TMD)
Neuropathic Pain
Headaches

Dr. Borquez will recommend all necessary tests and referrals to rule out any chance of brain pathology (tumor, infection or autoimmune) which can mimic TMD, Neuropathic Pain or Headaches symptoms. Understanding that all facial pain is not TMJ related is crucial.

The quest to better manage Orofacial pain, has led to the establishment of Orofacial Pain as a discipline in the field of dentistry. There are residency training programs in orofacial pain at selective universities, and a board certification process as Dr Borquez.
